Seals, Trumpets, and Vials of Revelation

| March 11, 2011

The 7 Seals, the 7 Trumpets, and the 7 Vials are probably the most talked about things in all of Bible Prophecy. Why is this? Well, probably because they speak of great and mysterious events which are to happen in the last days. And people want to know what they are and when they will happen.

But in order to understand their meaning it is imperative that we first understand the “seals”, for everything else stems from them.

Purpose of the Seven Seals

The “seals” do exactly what the word implies.

They seal up an important scroll containing a list of verdicts or judgments that are to pronounced upon those who oppose God. Judgments that will cause them great lamentations, mourning, and woe. (See Ezekiel 2:9 for a similar scroll)

And in Revelation Ch.5 we learn a significant thing about them. No one could open them!

This distressed the Apostle John so much that he cried because of it. However he finds out that there is someone who can loosen the seals to reveal the contents of the scroll. And that someone was the Lamb that was slain – i.e. Jesus Christ, the righteous judge. For He and He alone was worthy to do so. You see it’s not just some mysterious scroll we’re talking about, it is a Book of Judgment.

Timeframes for the Seals, Trumps, and Vials

From the chart below we can see that the 7 Seals contain the period of the 7 Trumpets, the 7 Thunders, and the 7 Vials.

In other words, the “7 Seals”, when loosed by Christ, reveal to us what is to come. They give us the information. The Trumpets, the Vials, and the Thunders actually announce most of these events in REAL TIME.

My friend, when these trumpets begin to sound you are going to see some amazing things, things that will be impossible to miss unless you are deceived into taking the Mark of the Beast at that time.

In that case you would pretty much be blinded to all of the works of God anyway.

(We do have a series of studies available on DVD titled Seals, Trumpets, and Vials)

However, the 7 Seals also foretell of other major events that happen even before the first trumpet sounds. And some of those things I believe are happening today, including the planned destruction of our economy that is playing out before our very eyes.

(See our article on the 4 Horsemen)

But let’s take a broad look at the sequence of these events:

From looking at this chart you can see that a lot of stuff happens during the 6th and 7th Trumpets. In the 6th Trumpet we also have included a series of “Thunders”, and in the 7th Trumpet we have included a series of “Vials” in addition to the other things that will happen during these trumpets. That’s a total of 14 extra judgments making a grand total of:

21 CATASTROPHIC JUDGMENTS! (28 if you consider the “seals” as well)

The Seven Thunders

But one interesting part about this is that we don’t really know anything about the “7 Thunders” yet. Other than they will frighten the hell out of God’s adversaries. Man I tell you what, I’ve heard a few thunders in my life that caused my heart to skip a beat. Whatever these may signify, they will be no joke. I would sure hate to be on the opposite side of God at this time.

The reason we don’t know exactly what will happen during the 7 Thunders is because the Apostle John was told to “seal up the things which they uttered” (Revelation 10:4). I know some people like to take guesses as to what they signify, but the fact still remains: They are sealed until a future time, perhaps until the time of the Two Witnesses.

But for a deeper study into these seals, trumpets, and vials as well as the rest of the book of Revelation I recommend reading COMMENTARY ON REVELATION by E.W. Bullinger, Although I don’t agree with every detail in this book, in my opinion it is the best written commentary on the Book of Revelation.

Good morning Pastor Ben, I just want you to know that I have posted your message about the 7 seals, trumpets, and vials on Facebook in my wall for everyone to see and hear. For our Lord said, “Let those who have ears, let them hear and for those who have eyes, let them see.” I want to thank you so much for letting out “the Word of the Lord” for all to see what is happening now and then. I hope this one would catch all eyes and ears. Thank you and have a nice blessed day. God bless you and your family.
