Sunday after Sunday morning Pastors across America beat their congregations over the head with messages about believing and having faith in Jesus. Even to those who have been sitting in the front row for 40 years!
Granted, many new people need to hear the Salvation message, and it is even good for those of us who have been around a while to be reminded of it periodically. It is after all the most precious part of the Gospel message. But if that is the only message we ever hear we will never move onto maturity.
This is probably the most serious issue facing America today. Our churches are just feeding their people enough to feel good on Sunday and then when the rest of the week comes around they’ve forgotten all about it. What the church needs to do is start telling people what they need to do after being saved, and then train them so that they are not defeated in this world.
IT’S ONLY THE FIRST STEP
You see believing and having faith is only the first step. In fact, when Jesus addressed the Churches in the book of Revelation He told them a significant number of times that their goal was to be an OVERCOMER; not just a believer. BIG difference.
Listed below are quotes from Jesus to those churches:
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Needless to say Jesus’ admonition to overcome is what inspired us to name our ministry Christian OVERCOMERS. Because if that’s what Jesus told us to focus on then that’s what we ought to focus on, right? We want to help thousands of Christians across America, and the world, go from being merely believing towards being – Overcomers.
The verse below states that there are 3 things Overcomers need to do, not just one. Can you identify them?
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
