Coronavirus and The Plagues of Mystery Babylon

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, My People, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”
-Revelation 18:4

Several years ago, we did a
series of studies about Mystery Babylon - the great harlot of Revelation, and we saw some striking parallels between it and New York City. Both are seen as the capital of world trade, luxury, and sin. Interestingly, for those of us in our 40’s, two major events have changed our lives in many ways, both of which involved New York City in a big way. The terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001 and now the Coronavirus in 2020. For as I write, New York is currently the hardest hit city in the United States reporting 114,174 confirmed coronavirus cases resulting in 3565 deaths (as of 4/5/2020).

Is this a coincidence, or could God be trying to tell us something?

New York, Globalism, and Mystery Babylon

Well, let’s take a closer look at Mystery Babylon, its connection to New York and globalism. Many people object, and say, no Mystery Babylon is Jerusalem, Mecca, or Rome. Okay, I admit. Ultimately, Mystery Babylon could end up being some city other than New York. However, that misses the point. Every generation can learn from and heed the warnings God has written in Revelation 17-18 concerning Mystery Babylon. Throughout history we can find cities like her, and the lessons remain the same—Don’t be deceived by her seductive worldly wiles. Come out of her so that you receive not of her plagues!

Until that city comes into plain view, we must look at whatever city best fits her description
now and heed the warnings.

New York City is currently the center of globalization, known by many to be the current capital of the world, and is characterized by many of the things attributed to Mystery Babylon in Revelation 17-18.

Wikipedia even says:

“New York City has been described as the cultural, entertainment, and media capital of the world, significantly influencing commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, art, fashion, and sports. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for
international diplomacy.”

Wow! We know New York isn’t using its power and influence to share the gospel through its influential culture, media, and entertainment. I don’t have to tell you that. The things that come out of that city are mostly in direct opposition to the kingdom of God. No time to make a list here.

But this verse sums up her influence well:

“For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” -Revelation 18:3

Sounds like a summary of the description of New York City described by Wikipedia.

The international global corporations and the kings of the earth rely on this city to make them rich. Just think of it. New York is where the United Nations and Wall Street are located. This is where it all happens today.

Because she has done these things God says,

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.” -Revelation 18:4-6

Reward her even as she has rewarded you- Just think of all the Fake News and lies she has peddled off to us. God will get even, and perhaps already is.

When God says, come out of her my people, I don’t just look at this literally, though
I would leave New York City if I lived there. I look at this as God telling his people to have nothing to do with her idolatrous system or lifestyle. Instead of being a citizen of the world, be a citizen of the kingdom of God and focus on your community, family, and country.

That’s how you come out of her!

Interestingly, she is taking a big hit right now, not just with the Coronavirus, but globalism in general is not making much sense anymore. When you have pestilences or plagues like Covid-19 spreading from nation to nation shutting down or interrupting supply chains, countries must now re-look at the way they are doing things. America must now ask itself, “Do we want to rely on China or other countries for all our goods? What happens when we can’t get those goods in an emergency like this?”

This is serious business.

Let’s continue reading on:

“How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.” -Revelation 18:7-8

Interestingly there is a world-famous county in New York named “Queens”. Now I just throw that in there for fun. Really it is her attitude that is important here. She believes she is so powerful, so mighty, that nothing can defeat her. A lot of globalists think like this. Have you ever listened to
George H.W. Bush’s New World Order speech?

Moreover, I can’t help but think of how much pain the globalists have experienced since the election of Donald Trump, who has made it his primary mission to take them down. More on that in a bit.

The globalist lament

“For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!” And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.” -Revelation 18:17-19

I think we ought to pay close attention to what happens to global trade now because of the coronavirus.

An article published by Forbes Business titled,
Impact of the Coronavirus On Business laments about how Covid-19 is having hurting globalization. They say that “Global trade, commerce, tourism, investment, and supply chains are in disarray.”

Additionally, a writer for laments in an article titled,
The Coronavirus Is Killing Globalization as We Know It says, “The outbreak has been a gift to nativist nationalists and protectionists, and it is likely to have a long-term impact on the free movement of people and goods…Could the coronavirus pandemic even be the nail in the coffin for the current era of globalization?”

Now there are two things the globalists are lamenting 1) The election of Donald Trump and 2) The Coronavirus. It makes one wonder, are both God’s way of bringing judgment upon the globalist elite?

Though many neocons would have us believe that globalism is great for us, it has been the opposite. Globalization has impoverished the middle class and had almost destroyed our national identity. The only people who benefit from globalization are the politicians, the international merchants, and the corporate run media who continually pimp her out (Rev.18:3).

Donald Trump exposes the evils of globalism

In a
campaign speech leading up to his victory, President Donald Trump explains many of this very well by saying:

“Our politicians have aggressively pursued a policy of globalization - moving our jobs, our wealth and our factories to Mexico and overseas. Globalization has made the financial elite who donate to politicians very wealthy. But it has left millions of our workers with nothing but poverty and heartache.” -Donald Trump

And in S
eptember of 2019 in his address to the United Nations Trump said:

“The future does not belong to globalists. The future belongs to patriots. The future belongs to sovereign and independent nations who protect their citizens, respect their neighbors, and honor the differences that make each country special and unique…

The United States lost 60,000 factories after China entered the WTO. This is happening to other countries all over the globe.

The World Trade Organization needs drastic change. The second-largest economy in the world should not be permitted to declare itself a “developing country” in order to game the system at others’ expense.

For years, these abuses were tolerated, ignored, or even encouraged. Globalism exerted a religious pull over past leaders, causing them to ignore their own national interests…

Today, I have a message for those open border activists who cloak themselves in the rhetoric of social justice: Your policies are not just. Your policies are cruel and evil. You are empowering criminal organizations that prey on innocent men, women, and children. You put your own false sense of virtue before the lives, wellbeing, of countless innocent people. When you undermine border security, you are undermining human rights and human dignity.”

Sounds like a rebuke to Mystery Babylon to me! Amen.

Mystery Babylon falls

“Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.” -Revelation 18:20-21

Are we now witnessing the downfall of globalism? We’ll have to see. Now I’m not saying that this specific prophecy is being fulfilled right now, but I am suggesting that we may be seeing a type. If globalism does fail, will there be another great city to arise that will actually be Mystery Babylon the Great in totality? Probably.

But based off of everything I’ve seen since 2016 it appears that our current globalist system made in the image of Mystery Babylon is being judged by almighty God, in several different ways.

Let’s read the beautiful conclusion:

“And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.” -Revelation 18:22-23

In other words, all those who promote Mystery Babylon will one day no longer be heard again!

In Conclusion:

God says, “Come out of her my people.” You know if it weren’t for globalism, Coronavirus would likely be contained to just China right now. And just like a man who gets plagued with sexual diseases after sleeping with a whorish woman, many are asking themselves right now, are the cheap thrills of globalism really worth it? Because in the end I get plagued with diseases while the “pimps” (financial elite) end up with my wealth.
