In the last chapter Jacob displayed great traits of a true Shepherd by his use of wisdom, humility, and gentleness which enabled him to avoid catastrophe with his long-lost brother Esau and saved his entire family from great harm. But in this chapter, Jacob does not do such a good job shepherding his daughter - Dinah. For whatever reason he neglects his fatherly duties and allows his daughter to get herself into a very vulnerable situation, a situation that no young girl should have to deal with on her own.
